Digital Marketing:
In the most basic of definitions, digital marketing is the promotion of a product or brand via any form of electronic media. This is different than what is typically referred to as traditional marketing, which relies on the use of printed channels, TV and radio to promote a product or a brand.
Digital marketing is the larger umbrella in which you find internet advertising. The term was originally used in the early 90’s but has since evolved and become much more sophisticated.
Digital marketing involves the following media:
– Email
– Text message
– Web feed
– Website
– Blog
– Streaming media
– Search engine optimization
– Social media
– Digital advertising (including search and display)
– Videos
– Content marketing
Internet marketing aka Online marketing:
Internet marketing uses the web to deliver promotional marketing messages to consumers. While it is a part of digital advertising it is only inclusive of advertising done using the internet.
Online advertising/Internet advertising includes the following strategies:
– Email marketing
– Search engine marketing
– Social media marketing
– Display advertising
– Mobile advertising
So while online advertising is digital marketing, digital marketing might not necessarily be internet advertising/online advertising.
