Don’t believe us? Ask Brandon Eich.
Brandon Eich one of Mozilla’s co-founders was recently promoted to CEO. His term as CEO lasted only eleven days and ended with him resigning from Mozilla. Shortly after he was appointed a firestorm sparked by employees, was unleashed on Twitter.
Six-years-ago Mr. Eich had donated $1,000 in support of a 2008 California ballot initiative to ban gay marriages, an action that led to intense criticism. This isn’t about whether it was right or wrong. This is about the power of Twitter.
We’ve seen it before, but this was shocking. Twitter branded Eich a homophobe and the Internet went into an uproar. Despite efforts by Mozilla to restate its commitment to the LBGT community and equality it was too late. Twitter was swarming with people voicing their opinions and as a result the creator of Javascript felt forced to resign.
